On Sunday, June 1st, a vibrant and joyful group of 70–100 United Church walkers of all ages joined the Winnipeg Pride Parade, representing the Prairie to Pine Regional Council. Throughout the route, our numbers grew and shifted, but the energy never wavered.

Participants came from eight congregations across Winnipeg: St. Mary’s Road United Church (SMRUC), Churchill Park, St. Andrew’s River Heights, Westworth, Young United, Augustine, Transcona Memorial, and Meadowood. Many familiar faces returned from previous years, joined by a few first-time walkers excited to step into this celebration of love and affirmation.

A highlight again this year was the music—speakers mounted on the back of a truck set the beat as we danced, laughed, and waved to the cheering crowd. Along the route, we were met with heartfelt encouragement and curiosity. More than once, parade-goers expressed surprise—and delight—to see a church group proudly marching in support of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

The coordination of this year’s presence was led by youth and young adults from Winnipeg.

As always, it was a beautiful day of connection, witness, and celebration. See you next year!
