Would your United Church in the Prairie to Pine Region like to host a Traveling Youth Group (TYG)? Learn more about the activities, benefits, and more!
TYG stands for Traveling Youth Group. These are monthly, 2-hour youth events hosted by different churches in rotation. They’re an amazing way to bring together youth from all over the area for faith, fun, and connection. In the past year alone, we’ve had 6 successful TYGs hosted by various churches such as SMRUC, Westworth, Atlantic Garden City, UCIM, Fort Garry, John Black Memorial and North Kildonan UC.
Thank you to the churches that made these events possible!

Egg Relay Race
TYGs are a blast because they bring together a larger group of youth than most churches can gather on their own. It’s a chance to see friends from other churches, make new ones, and enjoy high-energy events that even small youth groups can host.

Gingerbread House Competition
Every TYG is about 2 hours and follows a flexible, fun format that any church can pull off with a little help.
Some themes done in the past: Hunger Games, Easter Vigil, 2000’s – 2010’s Game Shows, Music Industry SIM Game, Craft Night, Christmas Gingerbread House, and much more.
Here’s what a TYG typically looks like:
15 Minutes of Icebreakers
We kick things off with icebreakers to help everyone loosen up and laugh. Favorites include splat, rock-paper-scissors tournaments, never have I ever, and fruits in a basket.

30 Minutes of Worship
Worship can be led in a variety of ways, depending on the group. A youth band might take the lead, or a guest musician can join in. Sometimes it’s simple sing-alongs, music videos with lyrics, or even acting out Bible stories. It doesn’t have to be complicated, just something that helps everyone connect and reflect.

1 Hour Activity Time
This is the heart of TYG. Activities have included games, group challenges, team work, painting nights, and indoor relay races. These are always full of laughs and unforgettable moments!

15 Minutes Snack & Social Time
We always end with snacks and hangout time from cookies and hot chocolate to popcorn and sweets. It’s a good way to wind down and talk with the friends you made.

Bonus: Pictures & Recaps
At each TYG, we capture the fun with pictures and sometimes short recaps to share. Seeing the joy, energy, and connection in those photos says more than words ever could!
