From February 20 to 22, at Harrow United Church, 39 regional youth gathered for a memorable retreat with the theme “Knowing Our Neighbors: Many Religions, One Community.” The weekend was filled with learning, new experiences, meaningful conversations, and plenty of fun.

We also spent time learning about Buddhism and its teachings. We discussed their version of the worlds story and teachings inside their book of faith. We found it very intriguing that Buddhism is a religion that does not does not believe in a single, creator God. Instead, it focuses on individual enlightenment. Thank you to Sensei Tanis for your teachings!

Another special part of the retreat was listening to teachings from Donna Kennedy, an Indigenous elder. Donna shared wisdom about Indigenous traditions, spirituality, and the importance of respecting the land and the people around us. This was a powerful and meaningful experience that helped us understand the importance of Indigenous perspectives and culture.

Along with these learning experiences, the retreat was also full of fun activities, games, and time to connect with friends. Everyone had the chance to share their thoughts, learn from one another, and build stronger friendships.

By the end of the weekend, we left with a deeper understanding of different religions and cultures, and a stronger appreciation for the diversity in our community. The theme “Many Religions, One Community” reminded us that even though people may have different beliefs, we can still come together with respect, curiosity, and kindness.

Thank you to all the leaders, volunteers, and youth who helped make this retreat such a meaningful and enjoyable experience! We would also like to thank Harrow United Church for allowing us to use their space!
