Exciting news from Young Adults and Youth! Kaylee Wood (the designated young leader of a grant proposal team that met four times through the month of April) shared the exciting news that we received the grant for which we had applied. It is a $10,000 Walking Together Youth Grant from the Winnipeg Foundation for youth led projects that help Winnipeg youth work towards Truth and Reconciliation.
A group of 8 youth and young adults supported by two adults, Rey Anderson (an Indigenous Elder and friend of the youth) and Twila MacNair (regional youth staff) imagined 4 exciting events and projects for their grant proposal. Now we will meet to figure out the next steps to make them happen! We will update you as we have more details.
If you know of Winnipeg youth who would be interested in taking part in some events/projects with other youth with the goal of building relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people, reaching out and getting to know people on the margins, and learning together teachings from Indigenous elders and knowledge keepers, please give me your, or their, contact info, so I can add those contacts to a “Walking Together” contact list for updates.
