Summer Student Job located at the University of Winnipeg Library For the United Church Archives
We are hiring an Archives Assistant for the Summer!
The United Church Archives — located in the library of the University of Winnipeg (515 Portage Ave) – is looking for someone with a passion for history, who has excellent communication skills, and thrives when working independently. No experience in Archives is necessary, but an interest in working in the heritage field is a must.
Under the mentorship of archival staff, the Archives Assistant will “process” a number of archival collections. The Archives Assistant will go through material donated to the Archives, choose what to keep on behalf of the Archives, and will arrange and describe it following archival standards to create online finding aids. Training will be provided in basic archival practice, including appraisal, arrangement and description; Rules for Archival Description; the use of AtoM software; basic preservation management practices; and basic reference services.
Qualifications
Undergraduate or graduate level student currently enrolled in archival studies, curatorial studies, information studies, library science, history, Indigenous studies, historical geography, English, religious studies, or similar field. Excellent proficiency in oral and written English, and demonstrated research ability. Ability to work independently and to communicate effectively with the staff/volunteers of The United Church of Canada and with staff of the University of Winnipeg. Confidence with computers and proficiency using Microsoft 365 software and SharePoint is an asset. Experience working or volunteering in archives, museums, galleries, or libraries is an asset. Familiarity with the history of Indigenous Peoples in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario is an asset.

Hourly Rate – $20.00 (plus 4% vacation)
