When Ian Macdonald and Jim Uhrich started as a team ministry at Augustine in 1979, I had been the priest at St Luke’s, Anglican Church on Stradbrook for 2 years. I remember going over to introduce myself to them and discovering a common love for making music. We became close friends and continued that friendship through our various moves over the years. The friendship generated a partnership that became Common Cup which still exists. Bob Wallace (who came to be minister at St. Stephens’s Broadway during those early days) joined us. Bob and I are still members of the group, which now includes Scott McDonald (another Anglican and our drummer from Edmonton), Richard Betts (UCC, our bass player from Calgary) and Lloyd MacLean (UCC, our pianist from Pictou County, Nova Scotia.) On our Website – commoncup.com – there is a brief history of our group, and a tribute to Jim and Ian.
Common Cup is now winding down. We are planning a few more concerts and thought it might be nice to finish by honoring our beginnings in Winnipeg.
This a concert to give thanks and remember Ian and Jim’s ministry from our earliest days in Winnipeg and in the years following.
