DESCRIPTION:Have you ever volunteered with one of the organizations that walks in Winnipeg’s inner city?  The Thunderbirdz is one of those groups with whom United Church youth and adults have been connecting since 2021. DESCRIPTION:For our March event we are hosting a youth family movie screening and dinner. We will be attending the Winnipeg Freeze Frame festival held at Salle Pauline-Boutal Theatre (CCFM) 340 Provencher Boulevard. We will see the movie Uproar from 3pm-4:45pm. \nUproar is a coming-of-age tale of a 17-year-old Indigenous boy from New Zealand who is struggling to find his identity and voice while being faced with Racism both at school and the community when protest erupt. \nWe will then head to Grey Street United Church (651 Sandhurst Ave\, East Elmwood) for Dinner and discussion about the movie (and a few mixer games for fun!) from 5-7pm. \nBe aware this movie is rated PG-13 for language and Violence. Youth must have parent permission to attend and a ride from the theatre to the church. We recommend youth attend with a parent if possible. Youth of any age are welcome. DESCRIPTION:If you are a grade 7 to 12 youth\, we welcome you to register for the upcoming region-wide youth retreat\, being held at Selkirk United Church in Selkirk\, MB\, Saturday\, Feb 15th to holiday Monday\, Feb 17th. \nMake friends with other youth from across the United Church’s Prairie to Pine Region while exploring a theme through Worship\, Song\, and Inter-active Theme Times. The theme is “Biblical Allyship – A Work in Progress.”  We will explore what that means and how we can be part of that work. DESCRIPTION:Youth grade 9 and older who are interested in taking on some leadership roles at YAAY events\, or on the YAAY Committee in the coming years\, please register and come to connect with one another and find out about opportunities where you can learn and practice new skills. \nEvent includes leadership skill building\, a mini version of a typical YAAY meeting\, leading one another in youth retreat games\, an outing to the “Good Old-fashioned Dance” that is happening the same weekend\, offering pieces of leadership in the Sunday morning worship at our host church. \nEvent begins Saturday morning with the option to sleepover Friday night (to accommodate those coming from a distance) and ends mid-day Sunday.  Details still being finalized.  Option to be picked up by parents for the night if that is desired (and pre-arranged with organizers). \nWe are thankful to Churchill Park UC and Korean UC\, who are welcoming us enthusiastically into their shared space. \nProof of Covid Vaccination will be required.
