SUMMARY:ALF 2023 Regional Youth Retreat in Winnipeg
DESCRIPTION:If you are a grade 7 to 12 youth\, we welcome you to register for the upcoming region-wide youth retreat\, being held at St. Mary’s Road United Church in Winnipeg\, Friday Oct 20th at 6:30 pm to Sunday\, Oct 22nd at 1:00 pm. \n\nA great opportunity to make friends with other youth from across the United Church’s Prairie to Pine Region while exploring the theme through Worship\, Song and Inter-active Theme Times.  The retreat wouldn’t be complete without social time — dancing\, games\, chatting over meals (and canteen treats)! …and then rolling out your sleeping bag on the church floor to dream sweet dreams surrounded by new and old friends resting up for another busy exciting day! \nThis retreat’s theme is “Lost in Translation: The History of the Bible\, How it has Changed through the Ages\, and Whose Voices are Missing.” \nWhose voices do you think are missing from the Bible? Let’s name them together and see if we can find ways to honour those voices\, too. \nInvite your friends\, neighbours\, cousins (the ones you see often and the ones you would like to see more often!) \nHaven’t been to a retreat before?  – See: Retreat description for potential participants. \nTo allow all to attend\, no matter their family’s financial status\, the fee is suggested on a “pay what you can” scale from full fee of $95 down to $0. \n\nRegistration deadline: Oct 11th\n\nREGISTER HERE \nWe are also looking for leaders age 16+.  Interested?  Apply here.

SUMMARY:Diakonia During Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:Join in on Friday\, October 27\, 2023 at noon Central Time for an online discussion of climate change and how to respond as faith-filled individuals and as ministers. \nThis past summer has delivered unprecedented and extreme weather phenomena to many parts of Canada and around the world. What are the implications of climate change to your community and context? Who are we within the community of creation\, and what is our responsibility to all life on Earth? What does climate change mean for the collective ministry of diakonia? \nOur special guests will be Eric Tusz-King and Katrina March. Eric is a “mostly-retired” Diaconal Minister in the United Church\, with experience in housing and energy issues\, who has served on the UCC’s Climate Advisory Committee and is still on the Climate Advisory Committee for the town of Tantramar\, NB\, where he currently lives. Katrina is a deaconess and environmental engineer who is a member of the Lutheran Diaconal Association. She is a writer\, speaker\, preacher\, teacher\, and advocate for a better way of living together within creation. She recently moved to Spokane\, Washington. \nCCS Fridays events are free.
