SUMMARY:Zeebu 2023 Regional Youth Retreat in Brandon
DESCRIPTION:If you are a grade 7 to 12 youth\, we welcome you to register for the upcoming region-wide youth retreat\, being held at Knox United Church in Brandon\, MB\, Saturday Feb 18th at 6:30 pm to Monday\, Feb 20th at 1:00 pm. \n\nA great opportunity to make friends with other youth from across the United Church’s Prairie to Pine Region while exploring the theme (Hobbies) through Worship\, Song and Inter-active Theme Times.  The retreat wouldn’t be complete without social time — dancing\, games\, chatting over meals (and canteen treats)! …and then rolling out your sleeping bag on the church floor to dream sweet dreams surrounded by new and old friends resting up for another busy exciting day! \nInvite your friends (the ones you see often and the ones you maybe haven’t seen since summer camp!) \nHaven’t been to a retreat before?  – See: Retreat description for potential participants. \nTo allow all to attend\, no matter their family’s financial status\, the fee is suggested on a “pay what you can” scale from full fee of $90 down to $0.  My concern with this payment model is that people won’t be enticed to register early to save money\, but I am still offering an early-bird discount.  While that will only affect those who plan to pay the suggested price\, I urge all of you to register TODAY\, as it is exciting for our leaders to hear who is coming — and makes planning easier when we know numbers early! \n\nEarly-bird deadline Feb 2nd\nDeadline Feb 9th\n\nREGISTER HERE\nWe are also looking for leaders age 16+.  Interested?  Apply here.

SUMMARY:SAQA the Studio Art Quilt Association is bringing JOY to TMUC!
DESCRIPTION:JOY\, a fabric art ‘Trunk Show’ will be at Transcona Memorial United Church from Friday\, February 17 through Sunday\, February 19.  Join us on Friday\, February 17 at 10:30 for the opening and the Artist Introduction to the Show with local artists Cathie Ugrin\, Tanya Deleva and Susan Selby. Here’s more about JOY: \nA year ago\, SAQA invited fabric artists to consider JOY with these words:\nJubilant\, diverse\, and inspiring\, Joy is a feeling to recognize\, embrace\, and share.\nSince March 2019\, the world has shifted. Fear\, isolation\, and panic have become norms. Unmoored from the norm\, we have been drifting.  Slowly we are awakening\, our mood is shifting and we can see light in the future.\n“Joy is an intense\, momentary experience of positive emotion”. (Ingrid Fetell)\nIt’s intangible\, that’s why people try to capture it in different forms to remember the moment.\nWhat brings you JOY? What will the new reality be for you? \nSAQA artists answered the questions in fabric pieces\, each measuring 18 inches square.  There is no cost for attending the exhibit (donations welcome).  There are 31 pieces on display as well as a number of fabric ‘postcards’. The ‘postcards’ are for sale for $25/each with all proceeds going to the Ukrainian Canadian Foundation. \nThe exhibit is open on Friday\, February 17 from 10:30 to 3:00 p.m.\, Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. \nWe hope that you will join us at Transcona Memorial United Church\, 209 Yale Avenue West\, for the exhibition and find JOY!

SUMMARY:Pathways to Sustainable Communities-An Evening with Clayton Muller
DESCRIPTION:Join best-selling Manitoba author and activist Clayton Thomas-Müller as he explores the question: what will it take for us to heal from colonization as a country? Colonialism in Canada is at the heart of many of our most pressing issues\, such as food insecurity\, climate change and inequality. To solve these issues\, we will have to heal the damage of colonization argues Thomas-Muller\, whose 2021 memoir Life in the City of Dirty Water was a finalist in CBC’s Canada Reads 2022. In a multi-media keynote address\, he will show how Indigenous communities have been harmed in the colonial pursuit of resource extraction and how a better future is not just possible\, but necessary. The event will also include a moderated audience Q&A session and a book signing opportunity. \nFeb 22/23 @ 7: 00 pm \nTickets $ 15.00 \nPark Theatre\, 698 Osborne \, Wpg. \nGo to Park Theatre events calendar
