SUMMARY:CCS Friday – Becoming an Anti-Racist Church
DESCRIPTION:Join an online conversation to explore more about what it might mean to become an anti-racist church. How does an organization continue the process of institutional change to become a more intentionally anti-racist one? Together\, we’ll explore a continuum for becoming an anti-racism organization as well as the United Church’s national anti-racism action plan. The conversation will be facilitated by Adele Halliday who is the Anti-Racism and Equity Lead staff at the United Church’s General Council Office. An experienced anti-racism educator\, workshop leader\, and award-winning writer\, Adele has been involved in anti-racism work with churches in Canada and beyond for many years. She is currently staff resource to the United Church’s Anti-Racism Common Table. She holds a Master of Education as well as a Master of Theological Studies degree\, and is currently studying towards a Doctor of Education. \nYou can register at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEkcuihqzspHtTmzSydBr3p3D-HMsqeODZi \nCCS Friday conversations are free. If you feel like making a donation to the Centre for Christian Studies\, that’s always appreciated. https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/5260

SUMMARY:Where They Come From: A Meditation on Eleanor Rigby
DESCRIPTION:Where They Come From: A Meditation on Eleanor Rigby \nIn 1966\, Paul McCartney wrote a remarkable song—Eleanor Rigby. Over the ensuing decades\, fascination with Eleanor and Father McKenzie has only grown. Who were they? Why were they lonely? \nThis year\, Interesting Theatre will provide our answers with Where They Come From: A Meditation on Eleanor Rigby\, written and directed by Tim Higgins. \nAct One will feature the Haskins Street Band as they explore the musical influences that informed the Fab Four’s remarkable creativity and led them to Eleanor. \nIn Act Two\, the company of Interesting Theatre tackles the questions more directly. The story is set in Winnipeg\, in the winter of 1920. Supported by The Elleston Trio\, you’ll watch two lives become intertwined in ways that neither could have imagined. \nWhere They Come From: A Meditation on Eleanor Rigby will be staged in the Sanctuary of Young United Church\, 222 Furby Street\, on Friday and Saturday\, April 1st and 2nd. Curtain is 7:30 both nights. Tickets are $20 (plus agency fees) and are available on EventBrite. Proof of vaccination and wearing of mask will be required. Running time approx. two hours. \nHere is the link: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/where-they-come-from-a-meditation-on-eleanor-rigby-tickets-277074095077 \nUniversal questions. Unforgettable characters. Amazing music. Join us for Where They Come From: A Meditation on Eleanor Rigby. All proceeds go to the work of Young United Church in the West Broadway neighbourhood. Donations gratefully accepted.
