Tina Conlon from Davenport-Perth Community Ministry\, and Shining Waters Regional Council President\, will join us for part of the time. United Church Moderator Right Rev. Dr. Carmen Lansdowne will speak on the afternoon of Nov. 1. \nWe are hoping to ensure there is lots of time for small groups\, and relaxation on the lovely grounds of Five Oaks. DESCRIPTION:Join in on Friday\, October 27\, 2023 at noon Central Time for an online discussion of climate change and how to respond as faith-filled individuals and as ministers. \nThis past summer has delivered unprecedented and extreme weather phenomena to many parts of Canada and around the world. What are the implications of climate change to your community and context? Who are we within the community of creation\, and what is our responsibility to all life on Earth? What does climate change mean for the collective ministry of diakonia? \nOur special guests will be Eric Tusz-King and Katrina March. Eric is a “mostly-retired” Diaconal Minister in the United Church\, with experience in housing and energy issues\, who has served on the UCC’s Climate Advisory Committee and is still on the Climate Advisory Committee for the town of Tantramar\, NB\, where he currently lives. Katrina is a deaconess and environmental engineer who is a member of the Lutheran Diaconal Association. She is a writer\, speaker\, preacher\, teacher\, and advocate for a better way of living together within creation. She recently moved to Spokane\, Washington. \nCCS Fridays events are free. DESCRIPTION:Augustine United Church \n444 River Avenue \nFree Will Offering \nAll proceeds go to Augustine United Church \nMessage from Gordon Light\,\nWhen Ian Macdonald and Jim Uhrich started as a team ministry at Augustine in 1979\, I had been the priest at St Luke’s\, Anglican Church on Stradbrook for 2 years. I remember going over to introduce myself to them and discovering a common love for making music. We became close friends and continued that friendship through our various moves over the years. The friendship generated a partnership that became Common Cup which still exists. Bob Wallace (who came to be minister at St. Stephens’s Broadway during those early days) joined us. Bob and I are still members of the group\, which now includes Scott McDonald (another Anglican and our drummer from Edmonton)\, Richard Betts (UCC\, our bass player from Calgary) and Lloyd MacLean (UCC\, our pianist from Pictou County\, Nova Scotia.) On our Website – commoncup.com – there is a brief history of our group\, and a tribute to Jim and Ian. \nCommon Cup is now winding down. We are planning a few more concerts and thought it might be nice to finish by honoring our beginnings in Winnipeg.\nThis a concert to give thanks and remember Ian and Jim’s ministry from our earliest days in Winnipeg and in the years following.
