SUMMARY:Trek to Turkey refugee support
DESCRIPTION:The Young Adults and Youth (YAAY) Committee is inviting you to join us in running or walking to raise money to bring a family of refugees to Winnipeg. If not registering as a walker/runner\, please consider donating in support of one of our participants. \nUsing an app called Pacer\, all participants will collectively run or walk a total of 900km between June 14th and June 19th. While Turkey is closer to 9\,000km from Winnipeg\, we decided that one-tenth of that would be a more doable goal. All participants who raise or donate at least $20 will be eligible to win prizes for three different categories. All participants will also receive a gift of a plant for their participation. \nThis is one of the fundraisers being put on by the YAAY Committee with support from Young United Church to bring a family of refugees to Winnipeg from Turkey to join their daughter who is already living here. We need to raise a total of $8000\, of which we have already raised $2500. All money raised will be used to help the family settle into life in Canada by providing means to access housing\, transport and other important resources. Please support this fundraiser by sponsoring any participant in the Trek to Turkey: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/young-united-church/p2p/trecktoturkey/ \nPrizes will be available for the following categories: \n– Participant who raised the most money \n– Participant who travelled the most kilometres in the week \n– Random draw for all participants who raised at least $20 \nThis is a virtual event\, meaning that you can participate from anywhere\, as long as you can use the app. Information about how to use the app and how to donate or collect donations will be sent to you after you register. \nIf you have any questions about the fundraiser and event\, please send us an email at p2pyaay@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:ALF Youth Retreat 2022- Theme: We All Dream Big
DESCRIPTION:If you are a grade 7 to 12 youth\, we welcome you to register for the upcoming region-wide youth retreat\, being held at Carman United Church\, in Carman\, MB\, Friday Oct 21st at 6:30 pm to Sunday\, Oct 23rd at 1:00 pm. \nA great opportunity to make friends with other youth from across the United Church’s Prairie to Pine Region while exploring the theme through Worship\, Song and Inter-active Theme Times.  The retreat wouldn’t be complete without social time — dancing\, games\, chatting over meals (and canteen treats)! \nInvite your friends (the ones you see often and the ones you haven’t seen since summer camp!) \nHaven’t been to a retreat before?  – See this Retreat description for potential participants. \nTo allow all to attend\, no matter their family’s financial status\, the fee is suggested on a “pay what you can” scale from full fee of $90 down to $0.  My concern with this payment model is that people won’t be enticed to register early to save money\, but I am still offering an early-bird discount.  While that will only affect those who plan to pay the suggested price\, I urge all of you to register TODAY\, as it is exciting for our leaders to hear who is coming — and makes planning easier when we know numbers early! \n\nDeadline Oct 15th\n\nRegister by clicking here.

SUMMARY:Sing for Climate Justice!
DESCRIPTION:Multifaith Climate Action is hosting a singing rally to face the powers of climate-destructive finance with the strength of song! \nCome out and join the Restorative Banking Choir at noon on Tuesday March 21st\, in front of the Royal Bank of Canada branch at 1700 Corydon Ave. \nRBC is one of the biggest climate offenders among banks\, directing huge amounts of money towards new oil and gas development and hastening climate breakdown. Therefore\, March 21st has been designated Move Your Money Day\, with events taking place all over Turtle Island to hold the banks accountable. We will gather in a spirit of nonviolence\, share information\, and sing of the world that we want to invest in. There will be preparatory gatherings (March 5\, 2:00 pm at St. Mary’s Road UC and March 19\, 2:00 pm at Home Street Mennonite Church) for those who would like to help write lyrics and do some rehearsing\, but feel free to just bring yourself on the 21st! RSVP to the facebook event here. \n

SUMMARY:Travelling Youth Group at John Black
DESCRIPTION:Photo by Alex Smith on Unsplash \nYoung people grade 6+ are invited to participate in The Jesus Olympics — 3 cooperative events kicked off with an ice breaker game. It will be non-competitive since Jesus was all about working together! \nPhoto by Thomas Schütze on Unsplash \nA snack will be served. \nUnderstanding that some youth may be hesitant to attend an event in an unfamiliar church – youth leaders\, congregational youth allies\, or parents are welcome to participate in the event or sit in the building and catch up on some reading 🙂 if this will encourage tentative youth to participate. \nLocation: The address is 898 Henderson Highway; however\, the front doors are on Roberta Avenue. The entrance is opposite the day care entrance that has the rainbow steps. There is a drop off and pick up space there. There is a buzzer to left of the door\, however we will be watching for the youth to arrive. \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Mural Unveiling Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Please join us this Sunday\, May 28th at 4pm at Harrow United Church\, 955 Mulvey Avenue to celebrate the official unveiling of a beautiful new mural that can be seen as people drive or walk down Harrow Street.  If it looks like rain\, bring a raincoat!  We can retreat inside for parts of the celebration if needed\, but we will stay outside\, if at all possible\, because we can’t bring the mural in! \nMural Project Background \n \nIn 2021\, a group of youth\, on behalf of our region’s Young Adult and Youth (YAAY) Committee received a $10\,000 Winnipeg Foundation Walking Together Grant.  One of their projects from the grant moneys was to work with an Indigenous artist to put a mural on a United Church.  YAAY’s grant team partnered with artist Jeannie Whitebird\, of Rolling River First Nation and her colleague\, Charlie Johnston\, an experienced mural artist\, as well as the reconciliation team from Harrow United Church. Harrow United is excited to be the recipient of this mural\, and welcomes you all to join them at 4pm on Sunday\, May 28th for conversation and bannock in their healing garden with formal program to follow at 4:30 to celebrate the official mural presentation. \nClick here to see more photos and description of the project. \nWe hope to see you Sunday!

SUMMARY:Western P2P Youth Event
DESCRIPTION:An afternoon of fun with friends and horses!\nFor Youth Grades 5 to 12\nPlanned by YAAY’s* Western Reps\, especially for youth in their part of the Prairie to Pine Region \nThroughout the afternoon\, there will be 3 main stations. You will get to brush multiple horses\, lead them and let them show us things we don’t understand. \nYou will also have time to connect with other youth and explore your faith while reflecting on the theme. \n  \nSee this letter for more details.\nPrairie Breeze Stables requires this Prairie Breeze Stables waiver to be signed for each participant. This is pretty standard procedure for businesses that offer activities where there is potential for risk\, even though the risk is low when participants follow the instructions of the guides. \nRegister here\nNote: if we don’t have 12 registrants by March 16th\, we will have to cancel the event\, so please register now!  Hannah awaits your registration! \n*YAAY is the regional Young Adult And Youth Committee
